Some Quick Notes ...

Here are some very quick notes I'm compiling for a workshop I'm hosting this Sunday at the Entertainment Art Academy in Pasadena, CA. Very broad brushstrokes to consider for design and composition. I need to spend more time on these so as to give more information. I'll keep you posted.

Heads Up ...

These are quick notes I created for a workshop I hosted several months ago. In a nutshell, they outline a simple way to break up the face by establishing 3 landmarks (eyeline, noseline, and mouthline). My "sliding" these markers across the face and spacing them in varying positions, you can achieve starting points for a wide variety of characters.

Next, you play with volumes of facial elements. Remember, cartoons are exaggerations of life, thus they exaggerate forms, volumes, scale, dimension, etc. Don't be afraid to push your volumes.

Next, try and give dimension to your heads by turning them 3/4. Here, your features can push out of the face to establish well-defined silhouettes.

Next, flair your lines, play them across the face with motion. More notes explaining in detail later. Remember, this is ONE way to approach drawing the face.
